Student ID

You can put any integer number here to generate different exercises for practice. However you must submit the activity associated with your ID number to D2L in order to receive credit for the activity.

Wildcards

1. Take a screenshot of these instructions (including your student number) and the file/folder structure below. If you cannot get everything into the screenshot it is okay, just take your ID number and whatever fits on the screen.
2. For this activity, I recommend that you try the entire activity the first time and record the commands you used on paper (or some sort of note) and then when you are finished, erase the folder called 'completed_work' and then type all of the commands one after another and collect a single screenshot of what you typed.
3. Obtain a copy of the this data file and put this into your account on sit. Unzip the file and name the folder a20wildcards. All further questions in this activity refer to the files in this folder.
4. Make a folder called completed_work with the folders as shown here:
5. Copy the files with corresponding extension into the destination folder. For example if you have a folder called 'completed_work/txt' then move grace.txt, award.txt, etc into that folder. These copies are to be done using wildcards.
6. To demonstrate the activity do the following:
   1. Make sure the completed_work folder is empty.
   2. Clear the screen.
   3. Use tree to show me that the folders exist in completed_work but no file.
   4. Issue the 4 cp commands one after the next.
   5. Use the tree command to show me that the files have been copied.
   6. Take a screenshot of the terminal with these commands and the result.
