You can put any integer number here to generate different exercises for practice. However you must submit the activity associated with your ID number to D2L in order to receive credit for the activity.

Piping Content Through Filters

1. Take a screenshot of these instructions (including your student number) and the first few lines of the word list.
2. Create a folder named a19pipes on your sit account. Copy the list of words from the section below to a file called ?. You can get this word list to the file on sit using any technique.
3. Open a second Putty/SSH window. In one window use a command to show the first 20 lines of your file.
4. For each of the items in the list, write a linux command to perform the action requested. Arrange your ssh windows so that I can see the original file on the left and the output from your command on the right and use a single screenshot to show both windows. If the size of the output does not fit on the screen, provide the command and at least 15 lines. Note that it might be possible that your word list might not produce any output for some of the requests below... an empty answer is possible.
